Empowering the Tunisian Youth - Launch of a renewable energy internship program
The industrial consortium Dii officially launched an internship program on renewable energy “Know how for electricity from the desert” aimed at Tunisian students. The eleven selected Master level students have received an internship placement of between six and nine months starting in 2012 within one of Dii’s member companies. The program gives the students the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in their field of study with an international company.
Beyond financing and constructing power plants, the development of renewable energy in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe must include the creation of jobs as well as offering perspectives for the younger generations. Enhancing the qualifications of students wanting to work in the field of renewable energy fulfils this aim. The program should be considered as a valuable contribution to the creation of stable value chains in the renewable energy sector in Tunisia.
This program was initiated by the Tunisian Ministry for Higher Education and Research, the German-Tunisian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and Dii. The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) financially supported the internship program as part of its recently concluded energy partnership with Tunisia. Further, the program was supported by the German Embassy in Tunis and the German International Cooperation.
