Conference on the Renewable Energy Strategy, European Commission
Dii speaker: Paul van Son
When: 24 February 2012
Venue: Charlemagne Building in Brussels
Event: Conference concluding the stakeholder consultation on the Renewable Energy Strategy: "Stability and Growth: towards a European renewable energy market"
As recently pointed out in the Commission's Energy Roadmap 2050, renewable energy sources will play a major part in Europe's long-term decarbonisation efforts. While the Renewable Energy Directive 2009/28/EC sets a clear framework for further growth in renewable energy until 2020, the debate about how our policy should develop beyond the 2020 horizon needs to start now.
This is why the Commission is preparing a strategy document that will look at the policy framework for renewable energy in a post-2020 perspective, to be published in the second quarter of this year. In this context the Commission has conducted a stakeholder consultation which closed on 7 February 2012.
This conference will summarise the main outcomes of the stakeholder consultation. It will give interested parties the opportunity to directly express their views on the main topics of the consultation and put questions to a range of expert panellists.
The conference will be opened by a high-level panel with keynote addresses by Commissioner Oettinger as well as Minister Martin Lidegaard representing the Danish Presidency and Anni Podimata, Vice-President of the European Parliament.
