Dii unites the competencies and knowledge necessary to create an integrated market for renewable energy in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa (EUMENA). Dii is the central element of a network comprising key players from the scientific and policy community, industry and civil society. In this network, which is active on all sides of the Mediterranean, we work closely together to make the vision of desert power come true.

Dii is an enabler and aims to create a solid market for renewable energy in North Africa, the Middle East and Europe. In its strategic framework publication “Desert Power 2050”, Dii outlines that a EUMENA-wide power system based on more than 90% of renewable energy is technically possible and economically viable. The main message from the study could not be clearer: grid integration across the Mediterranean is valuable under all foreseeable circumstances.
The reference and pilot projects which Dii is initiating do not only stand for themselves but should be considered as milestones, facilitating the development of a market for desert power and the emergence of commercial activities. Dii also welcomes all renewable energy projects in the region contributing to this goal and most certainly encourage these endeavors. This map gives you an overview of renewable energy projects already in operation or in construction in North Africa and the Middle East.
