"Milestone for Morocco and Desertec" - Dii welcomes starting signal for solar project in Ouarzazate / Morocco

Dii shareholder ACWA Power wins bid

Morocco is making good progress with its goal to extend the generation and use of renewable energy. A consortium led by the Saudi company and Dii´s shareholder ACWA Power has won a contract from the Moroccan government for a solar thermal power plant with a capacity of 160 megawatts (MW) in Ouarzazate. "Ouarzazate is a milestone for Morocco on its way to an electricity supply based on renewable energy. I congratulate the Moroccan Solar Agency Masen and our co-partner ACWA Power. A first reference project which is already being prepared by Masen and Dii will complement the Moroccan project ideally, "said Dii CEO Paul van Son

Under its National Solar Plan, Morocco will set up a generation capacity of 2000 MW by 2020. Dii is currently preparing reference projects of 500 MW generation capacity in Morocco, part of which will include 150 MW CSP and 100 MW photovoltaic and wind.
