Dii's comment on the TuNur project announced by Desertec Foundation and Nur Energie
According to a press release issued on the 24th January 2012, Nur Energie is planning a solar project in Tunisia with a capacity of 2 Gigawatt, which should deliver electricity to Italy from 2016 via a submarine cable.
Dii has begun with the first Reference Projects which, for example, should start producing solar power from between 2014 and 2016 in Morocco. Exchange of technical expertise, market development issues and support of the development of renewable energy are the focus of it´s strategic partnerships with Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. In Tunisia this also includes close consultation with government officials and business representatives through current feasibility studies.
First steps have also been taken in Algeria. Together with the Algerian owned utility company Sonelgaz, industrial collaborations are being encouraged which would result in the creation of jobs.
A distinguishing aspect of Dii Reference Projects is to take all key aspects of the value creation chain, which play a part in overall long term sustainable development, into account. This includes the testing of regulatory, technical and economic conditions. Our partners in the Dii network are well positioned to take advantage of market opportunities. Dii, as enabler of an emerging major market for renewable energy, will fully support their partners with their know-how.
Should projects such as that of Nur Energie also contribute to the development of renewable energy, Dii would most certainly encourage their endeavours.
